1)  PREPARATION

1.      Remove the current disposable Waste Receptacle from the LitterMaidTM unit.

2.      You may use the supplied Plastic Plugs to close the holes where the Waste Receptacle Lid has been fastened or, you may use the disposable tray lid to close the holes.  When combined with “tenting” the liner along the edge of the tray,  one user  was able to obtain a more reliable seal.  While this may not work with all units due to variability in manufacturing of the LitterMaid itself, please give it a try and use the method that works better for you.

3.      If you are using the plugs, take the supplied Plastic Plugs and insert the Plugs into the holes where the Waste Receptacle Lid had been fastened on the LitterMaidTM unit.  It should lock into place.

4.      Make sure that the Plugs are properly seated.

YOU SHOULD NEVER USE THE SLIDE & TOSSTM  WITHOUT THE PLUGS or THE DISPOSABLE TRAY LID TO PREVENT YOUR CAT FROM STEPPING INTO THE HOLES AND BECOMING INJURED.

2)  USING THE TRAY (It is recommended that grocery bag liners are used)

1.      Take a standard size plastic grocery bag and make sure that there are no holes in it. (holes are most common at the gussets)  Note that the bag is wider from handle to handle.

2.      Insert the bottom of the bag inside the SLIDE & TOSSTM (Tray) with the handles of the bag to the sides, to match the longer opening from side to side.

3.      Then put the top of the bag first over the lip on the rear wall of the Tray, then the other side of the bag up over the front of the Tray.

4.      Try to “tent” excess liner around the edges to allow excess liner to act like a seal to seal any openings.

5.      Lift the cat ramp up to expose the side of the waste compartment area.

6.      Slide the Tray in.  On some units, it may be necessary to insert the lip of the Tray under the hinge of the cat ramp first; or slightly lift the LitterMaidTM, to allow the lip of the Tray to clear the waste receptacle lid hinge. Make sure that the back of the Tray rests firmly against the LitterMaidTM litter tray and that the lip of the Tray fits into the groove on the LitterMaidTM.

6.   Re-"tent" liner along the edges.

7.    Lower the cat ramp – the cat ramp should lock the SLIDE & TOSSTM  in place by engaging the two protuberances on the sides.

  • If you do not have a cat ramp.- Make sure that the lip of the Tray fits into the groove on the LitterMaidTM.  tray. If the litter box is often moved, it may also be necessary to secure the tray in place by either 1) placing a heavy object next to it to keep it from sliding out.  (e.g. brick wrapped in Kraft paper)  or 2) taking an elastic band, 18” long and placing self-stick Velcro to the ends and the LitterMaid and securing it place  [a pre-made elastic fastener is now available on-line]

8.   To clean, lift cat ramp, Slide the Tray out, Toss the contents, insert a new liner and slide the Tray back into the Litter MaidTM unit.

4)  Miscellaneous

·      It is recommended that prior to sliding out the SLIDE & TOSS TM  to dispose of waste litter, brushing off small bits of litter that tends to accumulate around the rim of the waste compartment area.

·        SLIDE & TOSS TM has a hinged lid to make it easier to clean.  It may be left unfastened.  Some customers find that this helps to "tent" the liner and obtain a more reliable seal.
