1) Using Standard Grocery Bags as Liners.
1) Make sure there are no holes in the bag.
Holes are most common at the bottom of the
bag by the gussets.

2) Position the bag such that the "handles"
of the bag are to the sides of the tray.

3) Insert the bottom of the bag in the tray.

4) Note the "Rear Lip" of the tray.  the liner
will have to go up and over this lip.
5)  Then slide the bag on the front part of the
tray up and over the front.

6)  You're ready to insert the Slide and Toss ™
into the Litter Maid ™ unit.

The excess liner around the rim of the tray acts to seal the tray to keep odors from escaping.  Try to "tent" excess liner around the rim area and allow the LitterMaid lid to push the liner down to position for a maximum seal.

"Tented" liner.  After inserting the tray, you may
want to tent it again, as inserting the tray will cause
some of the tenting to collapse.  Allow the LitterMaid
lid to push down the liner into position. (see also question #9)

A recent customer recommendation is to leave the hinged lip unfastened.  This will raise the the hinged lid and help in the sealing/tenting of the liner.  (see also question #9)

2)  Is it important that the Hinged Lid of the Slide & Toss is Closed/"Snapped into Place"?

No.  Some customers have found that leaving it unfastened helps to "tent" the liner and obtain a more reliable seal when using the grocery bag liner.

3)  I have been using the Slide & Toss and recently purchased the Elite model.
Is there a way I can make modifications so that it can be used with the Elite?

There have been users who have done this.  However we are not able to provide support for those that run into problems with modification. .  Click here to see how the Elite and the Slide & Toss may be modified.

4)  How do I remove the Elite Supports?

Please click this link for instructions.

5 The lid of the Elite does not open fully with the modified Slide & Toss in place.  Is this a problem?

No.  The hinged lid will not open completely with the Slide & Toss in place.  However this should not interfere with the raking/cleaning action, as the range of motion is more than adequate for this purpose.  We have had one case where this prevented the complete opening of the LitterMaid lid, which I believe has to do with manufacturing variability.  If you have this problem, please click here for additional instructions.

The hinged lid of the LitterMaid, if removed, cannot be re-fastened with the Slide & Toss in place.  If you remove the hinged lid, you will have to re-fasten it with the Slide & Toss removed.

6)  I lost the instructions that came with the Slide & Toss.  How can I obtain another one?

You can find it on-line by clicking this link.

7)  Which brand of clumping litters should I use?

LitterMaid recommends the following Premium Clumping Litters (alphabetical order)

  • ARM & HAMMER Super Scoop The Baking Soda Clumping Litter
  • EVER CLEAN Premium Clumping Litter
  • Fresh Scoop Scoopable Premium Cat Litter
  • LitterMaid Premium Clumping Cat Litter
  • World's Best Cat Litter

8)  I lost the instructions that came with the Slide & Toss.  How can I obtain another one?

You can find it on-line by clicking this link.

9)  Can I use the disposable waste container lid instead of the plugs?

Yes if it the LitterMaid lid seems to close with it in place.  A customer found that she was able to get a better seal when she used the disposable waste container lid, in addition to tenting the liner along the edge of the Slide & Toss.  There is some manufacturing variability in the LitterMaid units, so this may not be the case with all of them.  However, give this a try.   If this works well for you, by all means.
